Communication in Crisis Subject of TAMIU Course March 3

Learn to handle communication in crisis and emergency situation with “Communication in Crisis Situations,” a professional development course sponsored by Texas A&M International University and the Texas National Guard Tuesday, March 3 from 7 – 8:15 p.m. in the TAMIU Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center 102.

This course is free and open to the public, but first responders are encouraged to attend.

The course will focus on the principles of communication and the delivery of vital information especially during crisis situations. It will also focus on skills for managing hostile reactions and on assessing strengths and weaknesses in the communication of information. First responders are strongly encouraged to attend because of their need to communicate effectively with the public in crisis and emergency situations.

Upcoming courses include community resource mapping, narco-terrorism and international organized crime, overview of the federal criminal justice system, overview of Texas criminal justice system, terrorism law, immigration law, globalization and more.

This course is presented as part of a comprehensive program designed to provide the training and expertise required for personnel working to secure our nation’s southern border. Partners include TAMIU, the Texas National Guard, Laredo Community College (LCC), and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Funding of $2.2 million for the initiative was secured by US Congressman Henry Cuellar (’82).
