The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will hold the second part of the one-year Strategic Management Learning System (SMLS) Certification Program. The hands-on workshop, “Forecasting: Understanding Where You Want to Go—Then Plan How to Get There,” will be offered twice in February.

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Classroom location will be provided with registration confirmation. Fee for each session is $20.

Whether a beginner or a seasoned entrepreneur, this management learning system helps business owners to strengthen management skills, become more efficient and achieve the results needed from a business.

Forecasting is the core of all business plans and requires looking to the future. Running a business without a forecast is like taking a trip without a destination. Forecasting is the process of identifying that destination and then establishing a rough map for your business’ future activities. Carefully done, forecasts can be used to plan for profit. Large companies spend millions of dollars forecasting, both for profit and, what may be even more important, for setting meaningful planning objectives. These objectives then become the basis for strategies that companies can use to meet their profit targets.

This month’s session on forecasting will focus on: identifying all fixed and variable costs; break-even analysis; what are the odds; when will you reach break-even; reasonable versus worst case, Income forecasting and cash flow.
