Social Work/ADHD Conference Friday at TAMIU

A Conference focusing on the areas of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Psychotropic Medications, and how children and their families are affected will take place Friday, March 27 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

The 7th Annual Social Work Conference; “ADHD Interventions and Medication – Making the Right Choice will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in TAMIU’s Student Center Ballroom. It is sponsored by TAMIU’s Office of Special Programs.

Conference cost is $65 for tuition and an additional $15 for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Teachers.

Conference fee for parents and students will be $20. Registration at the door will include a $30 late fee.

The Conference will enhance practitioners’ and parents awareness in their interactions with children with ADHD, empower them with knowledge by demonstrating effective skills to manage chaotic behaviors, and how to change their outlook and attitude about working with this special population.

Guest lecturers will include Norma Y. Leben and Dr. Gilberto Salinas.

Leben is an acclaimed international lecturer and author of “Directive Group Play Therapy” (now in its 8th printing), the Feelings Wheel Game and the DVD, “Anger Work with Children.”

Dr. Gilberto Salinas, TAMIU assistant professor of Psychology, will present “Psycotropic Medications and ADHD.” His Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with a minor in Marriage and Family Therapy was earned at St. Mary’s University.
