Share your thoughts and hear other people’s opinions at the first joint book club meeting sponsored by the Texas A&M International University chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and the TAMIU Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Thursday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. The first meeting will be held at the TAMIU Killam Library Great Room located on the third floor.

The book club will discuss “All But My Life,” a Holocaust survival narrative, by Gerda Weissman Klein.

“TAMIU and Laredo community members may remember ‘All But My Life’ from the common reading for TAMIU freshmen and the Laredo Public Library’s ‘One City, One Book’ program last year,” said John M. Maxstadt, head of public services, Killam Library.

Klein visited Laredo and spoke at TAMIU last September.

“Many members of the TAMIU and Laredo communities missed the opportunity to fully participate due to not having finished the book. Copies of the book are available at Killam Library and at the Laredo Public Library,” Maxstadt mentioned.

TAMIU students, staff and faculty, educator courtesy card holders, TexShare card holders and members of the community who purchase community library member cards may check out books from the Killam Library.

There will also be a screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary based on Klein’s book, followed by an open book talk discussion led by Rehn Kovacic, instructor, Programs for Academic Support and Enrichment.

Maxstadt added that the program is the first in a series of meetings which will be expanded to two in the fall and two in the spring to discuss different books.
