Meet fiction writer, Christine Granados, author of “Brides and Sinners in El Chuco,” at the next “Voices in the Monte” Writers Series at Texas A&M International University Thursday, March 26.

“Granados will facilitate a Talk on Craft at 10 a.m. where she will discuss her experiences as a freelance journalist and the process of writing creative fiction. At 7 p.m., she will host a reading and book signing of her collection of short stories, ‘Brides and Sinners in El Chuco,’ ” said Kimberly R. Thomas, director, Writing Center.

Both events will be held in the TAMIU Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center, room 102, and are free and open to the public.

The El Paso native was a Spur Award finalist for best short fiction for the story “Inner View” in 2007 and was named one of the Top Ten “New” Latino Authors to Watch (and read) by LatinoStories.com, 2007. Granados won the 2006 Alfredo Cisneros del Moral Foundation Award, a grant given by Sandra Cisneros to further the aspiration of new writers.

Granados is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso and the M.F.A. creative writing program at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. A mother of two sons and a freelance journalist, Granados currently teachers creative writing at Texas A&M University, College Station.

“Voices in the Monte” is intended to provide an opportunity for students and the public to visit with local, regional and national writers who share their personal vision of writing and finding their voice.

The Series encourages interaction among people from the University, the city and the surrounding area with visiting writers. It is made possible by funding provided by TAMIU and a Title V Grant.
