There is still time to submit academic research or full-fledged original scholarship for the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Conference scheduled for April 20 – 23.

TAMIU students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to present their academic research or full-fledged original scholarship, art and performances to the University community.

The Conference provides an opportunity for recognition of the excellent research and scholarship of TAMIU undergraduate and graduate students, with cash prizes for best presentation in their disciplines.

There are three ways students may participate:

  1. Poster/Visual Presentation—Submit an abstract and prepare a visual presentation for the conference, a poster, art display, or artistic performance.
  2. Oral Presentation—Submit an abstract and prepare a 15-minute oral presentation for the University community. The presentation may be purely oral or may be accompanied by an artistic display/performance/reading as appropriate.
  3. Oral Presentation with a “Research Note” or “Research Paper.”

To participate, students must submit a proposal to Dr. David Beck, assistant professor of biology and Conference co-chair, at dbeck@tamiu.edu. Deadline is Sunday, March 29.

The public is invited to attend the closing ceremonies to listen to the TAMIU Scholar of the Year (2008), Dr. Christopher Ferguson, present “The Girls with the Bodies Like the Boys with Ferraris” in the Student Center Ballroom (SC 203) Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m.

There is no charge for admission.

The Conference has grown from its origins as the Guillermo Benavides Z. College of Arts and Sciences Academic Conference and is now funded by the Lamar Bruni Vergara Trust.

Each student participant will receive a gift and cash prizes will be awarded for best presentation at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The overall grand prize will be $300 for best graduate student presentation and $200 for best undergraduate student presentation.
