The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will hold the third part of its one-year Strategic Management Learning System (SMLS) Certification Program. The hands-on workshop, “Management Control—the Four Steps: Decide What Needs to be Done, Who Will Do It, and How You Will Know When It Is Done,” will be offered twice in the month of March.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2009, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and on March 26 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center room 125. Fee for each session is $20.

Management helps to make the most efficient use possible out of the firm’s scarcest resources: time, people and money. Planning the use of these assets enables practitioners to get the greatest return for their efforts.

The four steps of management control allow practitioners to think about their own management style in a systematic way and to consider the impact that their style has on their employees, customers, and business operations in total.

There are ways for more effective behavior, but that comes from willingness and desire to apply the techniques described. Accordingly, this workshop will help business owners to develop a management strategy that is most appropriate for them, their business and their employees, in order to receive the maximum benefit from the total business operation. That benefit is the dual objectives of profit and satisfaction.

This month’s session on management control will focus on:

  • Why management?
  • If not you, who?
  • What is management?
  • The four steps: identify goals, develop work plans, anticipate problems, and establish evaluation criteria.
