The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will hold the fourth part of its one-year Strategic Management Learning System (SMLS) Certification Program twice this April. The hands-on workshop will be “Target Marketing-The Eight Steps: The Key to Marketing Success--Focus, Focus, Focus.”

The workshop will take place Thursday, April 9, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 125. Fee for each session is $20.

Target marketing provides direction for all of your sales activities. It helps you to make the most efficient use possible out of such scarce resources as time and money. Thoughtfully planning the use of these resources will enable you to get the greatest return for your strategic management efforts.

Marketing as a whole, provides FOCUS for your business. It helps to establish critical operational goals and defines what must be done to achieve them. It shows how the different parts of the business contribute to achieving profitable sales levels. It provides a useful framework for coordinating all of the different activities within your business towards a single goal – greater profits.

The eight-step approach to Target Marketing is designed to help you develop the accuracy you require to be successful in your marketing and sales activities.

This month’s session on marketing will focus on: defining the product/service; consider the wants and needs of the product/service and whether it can suffice; identify market segments; evaluate segment mixes; formulate strategy; and execute strategy.
