In preparation for the final Sunday concert of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra’ current season, Wells Fargo Bank has announced the underwriting of a special price on pairs of tickets.

Single tickets to an LPO concert cost $25 for adults and $17 for seniors. The one-time-only “Special Price Pair” tickets will cost $30 for 2 adult tickets and $20 for 2 senior tickets. Tickets will be on sale in the lobby at the performance, which begins promptly at 3 p.m. at Laredo Community College’s Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez’ Fine Arts Center. Students with ID areadmitted free of charge.

“We at Wells Fargo are very committed to supporting the arts,” said Alejandro Cabezut, President of Wells Fargo and member of the LPO Board of Directors, “This special price is to encourage as many people as possible to show their support of the orchestra by making the tickets more affordable for this one event.”

“People who attend a concert are usually inspired to return,” said maestro Brendan Townsend. “With the support of Wells Fargo, we are making it even more possible for a couple to attend a concert, and hopefully to want to return again in the future.”

The May 3 concert, titled “Maestro’s Heroes,” includes music that was meaningful in the life of LPO music director Townsend. The concert opens with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1 which the maestro played as a teenager with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, is followed by the Concerto for Violin and Piano by Mendelssohn – the boy genius whose music inspired the young Townsend – and closes with “Aisling – Fantasy for Orchestra” by the Townsend’s father, Dr. Declan Townsend.

Both the LPO and Townsend have been praised by the League of American Orchestras for their great efforts to bring a rich mixture of popular orchestral works and for its new pieces by living composers to the stage in innovating and interesting ways.
