Texas A&M International University’s Programs for Academic Support (PASE), will present its First Year Academic Conference Student Research Project Presentations on Friday, April 17, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room (WHTC 111).

Presentations are open to all interested.

Conchita Hickey, PASE executive director, said the initiative is part of the University’s visible contribution to its Undergraduate Principles of Learning, a set of values that guide TAMIU teaching and learning.

“This will be our initial First Year Conference effort and helps to underscore the ‘expressive communication skills and critical thinking’ component of our Principles,” Hickey said.

“It provides freshmen with an opportunity to showcase research skills they have applied as a result of the UNIV 1102 Library Research Unit designed by our Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library staff. This course introduces them to research basics such as quality of sources, use of search engines and database access and is offered by our librarians in partnership with our faculty,” she explained.

“In addition, it provides students with a forum to demonstrate their oral, written or technical presentation skills and their learning on a particular topic,” she noted.

Conference-bound students have worked in groups and will present their research findings on a question of their choice. The 10-15 minute presentations will incorporate posters, PowerPoint or video presentations or panel discussions.
