The Texas A&M International University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library are encouraging all to join in their second joint book talk this May.

The book to be discussed is "Never Let Me Go," a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro.

The program will follow the same format as a book club meeting, and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. It will be held in the Killam Library’s Great Room, located on the third floor, west side, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20.

By the author of Remains of the Day, this elegantly crafted novel is dramatically set in an idyllic British boarding school shrouded in secrets and betrayals. Hailsham School students know they are special and are meant to do something wonderful with their lives, but what exactly that is, none of them know.
The reader begins to learn, through the narrator’s reminiscence, the true meaning of a Hailsham education, and the children’s purpose. Ishiguro presents many issues for the reader to ponder long after the novel is finished.

The book talk discussion will be facilitated by Malynda Dalton, Killam Library access services librarian.

Copies of the book are currently available at the Laredo Public Library and the Laredo Community College South Campus Library. Additional copies are currently on rush order at Killam Library to be made available as soon as possible.

For additional information, contact Rodney Webb, Killam Library director at 326.2400, or John Maxstadt, Library head of public services, at 326.2116.
