Start the weekend early at the Texas A&M International University graduating senior art exhibit and reception, “[dis'ke~nekt'~shun],” tonight from 5 – 8 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery.

Gallery admission is free and open to the public.

“This show is an exhibit of artwork in all media created by the 2009 group of TAMIU senior art majors,” explained Alma Haertlein, assistant professor of studio art.

“There are beautiful figurative and narrative drawings, energetic large-scale paintings on paper, humorous and whimsical ceramics, thoughtful installations, which also includes a performance piece, bold abstract paintings created using surprising techniques and unusual formats and photographs reflecting on dance and relationships,” added Haertlein.

Twenty percent of sales will be used to support the TAMIU CFPA Gallery.

This exhibit features work by Natalia Arandia, Zaira Bustillos, Kristina Gutierrez, Armela Rea Mariano, Karen Martínez, Myra Martínez, Stephanie Rios, Christian Romero, Ilse Schaffler and Richard Tellez.
Gallery hours are 12 – 5 p.m., Monday – Thursday or by appointment. The exhibit will be on display through Saturday, May 9.
