TAMIU Professional Development Class Targets Stress Today

Learn to improve communication to relieve stress at the next professional development course, “Workplace Stressors,” scheduled for Thursday, April 30 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall 116.

This course is free and open to the public, but first responders are encouraged to attend.

Dr. Gilberto Salinas, TAMIU assistant professor of psychology, will present the course.

“This briefing will focus on the lack of healthy communication regarding work related stressors that may lead to job burnout and other complications,” explained Dr. Claudia E. San Miguel, director, criminal justice program.

“Issues such as boundaries, family dynamics and other resulting problems will be addressed along with various methods of improving communication. Prevention and treatment of workplace stress will also be discussed,” Dr. San Miguel added.

This course is presented as part of a comprehensive program designed to provide the training and expertise required for personnel working to secure the nation’s southern border. Partners include TAMIU, the Texas National Guard, Laredo Community College, and various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
