Professional Development Course on Informant Use Set July 9 at TAMIU

Learn how to make effective use of confidential informants at the next professional development course at Texas A&M International University Thursday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center, room 102.

This seminar is free and open to the public, but first responders are highly encouraged to attend.
“Confidential Informant Utilization” will be presented by Dr. J. Mitchell Miller, professor of criminal justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

“The course will highlight the importance of using confidential informants in high intensity drug trafficking areas such as along the Mexico border region,” explained Dr. Claudia E. San Miguel, director of TAMIU’s criminal justice program.

“In addition to examining the confidential informant role with the nature of the informant-based policing operations, the course will also discuss data from in-depth interviews with a sample of former informants, added Dr. San Miguel.

Course instructor, Dr. Miller, served on the faculty of the College of Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina where he was also Graduate Studies in Drugs and Addictions director. His recent works include publications in leading academic outlets and has written and edited many books on drugs and crime.

This course is presented as part of a comprehensive program designed to provide the training and expertise required for personnel working to secure the nation’s southern border. Partners include TAMIU, the Texas National Guard, Laredo Community College, and various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education training hours will be awarded to law enforcement community members who attend.
