TAMIU Offers THEA Workshops

Students interested in preparing for the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) exam can take advantage of THEA workshops offered by Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Advancement of Scholastic Achievement (CASA) and Writing Center.

The workshop fee is $40 each which includes a free Compass test. All TAMIU community members are welcomed to participate. Space is limited; please register early.

Workshop opportunities include:

Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug. 11 – Math: Fundamentals of Math, Algebra, Geometry and Problem-Solving, 8 a.m.– 1 p.m. in Dr. Billy F. Cowart Hall (BCH), room 205.

Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug. 11 – Reading: Inference, Generalization and Main Idea, 1 - 6 p.m., BCH 205.

Wednesday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 14 – Writing: Essay Tips and Grammar Tricks, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., BCH 203.

The THEA replaced the former Texas Assessment Skills Program (TASP). It is designed to provide information about the reading, mathematics and writing skills of students entering public colleges, universities and educator preparation programs in public and private institutions.

University summer hours are 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday - Thursday and 8 a.m. – noon on Fridays.
