Deadlines Extended for TAMIU Student Leadership Opportunities

Learn leadership skills before graduating from the University through leadership opportunities at Texas A&M International University. Application deadlines are this Friday, Sept. 25 and Friday,
Oct. 9.

“Leadership is a quality which is developed over time and the true test of any leader is their commitment to grow. The TAMIU Office of Student Affairs has developed many opportunities for students to become the person they wish to become,” said Miguel Treviño, associate director, Office of Student Affairs.

Opportunities include:

Honor Council Student Member—The TAMIU Honor Council provides faculty and students a channel to report academic dishonesty, provide students with a way to appeal the charges of academic honestly, serve as the initial hearing body for academic cases outside the classroom and to provide the provost with recommendations regarding general academic sanctions or remedial efforts. Members are expected to attend meetings and required to keep all information confidential. Application deadline is Friday, Sept. 25.

Student Conduct Board Member—The Student Conduct Board is responsible for reviewing claims of violations of University rules and regulations and the University Student Code of Conduct. Members are obligated to know and understand the Student Code of Conduct and keep all information confidential. Application deadline is Friday, Sept. 25.

Freshman L.I.D.E.R.—The Freshman L.I.D.E.R. (Leadership and Involvement for Diversity, Engagement and Retention) program was created in conjunction with the Walmart Growing What Works Semillas Grant and is designed for first-time freshmen. The program requires members to attend specific activities and events that will help them become acquainted with the University. Application deadline is Friday, Oct.9.

Orientation Leaders—These are students who serve as role models for first-time students at TAMIU. They help new students adjust to the rigors of University life. Orientation leaders are expected to demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, enthusiasm, creativity, honesty and communication skills and encouraged to be themselves. Application deadline is Friday, Oct.9.

Leadership TAMIU—Juniors and seniors at TAMIU ready to take the next step in developing their leadership skills as they prepare for the future. Leadership TAMIU provides students the opportunity to listen to proven leaders in various fields which will teach students the principles of communication, ethics, teamwork, service, learning and engagement, time management and goal setting. Application deadline is Friday, Oct. 9.
