Cuarteto Bellas Artes de Mexico Schedules Benefit Performance at TAMIU Oct. 13

A rare opportunity to hear one of Mexico’s most celebrated String Quartets, the Cuarteto Bellas Artes de México (Fine Arts Quartet of Mexico) will take place Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.

The concert, hosted by the Mexican Consulate in Laredo, Gateway Rotary Club, Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Instituto Cultural México Laredo will feature works by Mexican composers.

General admission is $10; admission for students is free with an ID. Proceeds will support the Laredo Gateway Rotary Club and the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Led by violinist Balbí Cotter, the Cuarteto Bellas Artes was founded in 1974 and is comprised of internationally recognized musicians of México. It performs orchestral and chamber music featuring compositions by artists such as Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert but with a special emphasis on works by Mexican authors.

The quartet’s members include Cotter, on violin I; Viktoria Horti, violin II; Matthew Schubring, viola and Adolfo Ramos, violoncello. Members regularly participate as soloists for the most prestigious orchestras of México in both national and international venues.

The Cuarteto has performed in numerous festivals including the Internacional Cervantino (Guanajuato, México); Miguel Bernal Jiménez (Morelia, México), and Música Nueva Manuel Enríquez (México City). They have also performed with famed pianists Guadalupe Parrondo, Eva María Zuk, Manuel Delaflor, Luz María Puente, Jorge Noli, Duane Cochran and María Teresa Frenk as well as cellist Boena Slawinska.

They performed with popular Mexican artist Eugenia León for the premiere of Astor Piazzola’s tango opera, “María de Buenos Aires” during the 70th Anniversary of Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Palace).
