Oxford University Organist Performs at TAMIU Sunday

Enjoy an afternoon listening to one of the leading organists of his generation at the Texas A&M International University Organ Recital Series Sunday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Featured organist Clive Driskill-Smith, sub-organist at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford University, will perform music by G.F. Handel, C. Franck, C. Saint-Saens, J.S. Bach and others.

Born in 1978, Driskill-Smith is considered one of the leading organists of his generation. Hey has been praised for his “blazing technique” by the Evening Standard and the Organo Pleno Melbourne described his performances as “truly breathtaking.”

Winner of the Royal College of Organists’ Performer of the Year Competition in 2000 and the Calgary International Organ Competition in 2002, Driskill-Smith has performed in the U.K., France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Finland, South Africa, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Canada, the U.S., South America, Australia and New Zealand. His performances have been broadcast in Australia, Finland, Japan, Sweden, the U.K. and the U.S.

Driskill-Smith’s repertoire spans six centuries and includes the complete works of Maurice Duruflé and Oliver Messiaen.

He was awarded the ARCM (Associate of the Roal College of Music) diploma in piano performance and the FRCO (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) diploma with the Limpus, Shinn and Durrant Prizes and the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal.

He graduated with a First Class Honours degree in music in 1999 and with the M.Phil. in 2001.

The next TAMIU Organ Recital Series is scheduled for Feb. 28, 2010 with guest organist, Storm Knien.

The Sharkey-Corrigan Organ is a gift of the E. H. Corrigan Foundation, led by longtime Laredo businessman and passionate supporter of the arts E. H. Corrigan.
