Students pursuing higher education will now have the opportunity to receive a joint bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M International University and Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, realizing the University’s global mission of a truly international curriculum.

In ceremonies held Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, officials from both institutions singed articulations agreements to offer bachelor’s degrees in nursing and business as well as a certificate in bilingual education.

“These agreements correspond to an initiative brought by TAMIU President Ray Keck about a year ago and fit quite nicely within the initiatives led by the Bi-National Center to capitalize on the economic strengths and opportunities of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo,” explained Dr. Jaime Ortiz, associate vice president, division of international programs.

Students will be able to enroll in the programs starting Fall 2010.

Under the agreements, each college or facultad will participate in the exchange of faculty or joint teaching and research and collaborate in research in their respective areas. Faculty members teaching in the joint programs will be proficient in the language of instruction or the department will provide simultaneous translation to facilitate the delivery of instruction.

Each student involved in these programs will be subject to the admission requirements and tuition and fees of the host university. Also, language competency should be at a level that will allow participating students to attend classes in the language of the host university.
