TAMIU’s Encanto Espanol Ready to Delight March 6

Spend an enchanted evening enjoying wine and tapas at the Texas A&M International University Classical Spanish Ballet’s Encanto Español Saturday, March 6.

The Spanish wine and tapas reception, sponsored by the Women’s City Club, starts at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Lobby.

The flamenco show begins at 8 p.m. in the CFPA Theatre.

Admission is $15 and proceeds benefit dance student scholarships. Tickets may be purchased at the department of Fine and Performing Arts office in CFPA 217.

“The University’s Classical Spanish Ballet are the featured performers of the evening. They will perform a variety of dances including classical Spanish pieces, traditional flamenco and new flamenco,” said Bede Leyendecker, Department of Fine and Performing Arts chair.

Guest performers include the TAMIU Guitar Ensemble and Ensemble director, Dr. Gilberto Soto. Dr. Fritz Gechter, associate professor, piano, will present a live rendition of Turina’s “Sacromonte.”

Poetry will be recited in Spanish by Dr. Manuel Broncano, chair of the department of language and literature; Dr. José Cardona-López, associate professor of Spanish and Hispanic literature; Patricia González and Rosa Maria de Llano, faculty in the Spanish program; Cynthia Gallardo, TAMIU student, and also local celebrities Jeannie López and Tricia Cortez.
