South Texas Mathematics Consortium Saturday at TAMIU

The 18th Annual Meeting of the South Texas Mathematics Consortium will be held at Texas A&M International University Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the University’s Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC).

The STMC is a professional organization serving mathematical interests of colleges and universities in South Texas and North-Eastern Mexico. The TAMIU meeting is hosted by the University’s College of Arts and Sciences Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.

The presentation sessions, other than breakfast keynote address, luncheon keynote address, and the Games, Puzzles, and Pizza Party, are free and open to the public. Unrestricted access to the meeting requires registration.

Pre-registration, available through noon Friday, Feb. 19 is $15 for students and $30 for all others, including presenters. Registration is available online at tamiu.edu/stmc

On-site registration is available on Saturday and will be $25 for students and $40 for all others,
including presenters.

In addition to college/university faculty and students, friends of mathematics, mathematics enthusiasts, advanced high school students, and high school and middle school teachers are invited to participate.

The Consortium agenda is as follows:

8:00 a.m. – Pick up Registration Materials at the Registration Desk, WHTC lobby.
8:15 to 8:45 a.m. - Breakfast and Welcome Address, Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room

8:45 to 9:45 a.m. - Breakfast Keynote Address, Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room.
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon - Morning Parallel Sessions, WHTC.
12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. - Luncheon and Keynote Address, Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room
1:15 to 4:15 p.m. - Afternoon Parallel Sessions, WHTC.
4:15 to 5:30 p.m. - Games, Puzzles and Pizza, Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room.
