When the 50th annual Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival in Colombia showed the short film “El Teorema de Jenny” next week, audiences were actually watching a movie based on a nouvelle (short novel) written by Dr. José J. Cardona-López, associate professor of Spanish and Hispanic literature, Texas A&M International University College of Arts and Sciences department of Language and Literature.

The story, “Tu teorema de Genny,” appears in the book “La Puerta del Espejo,” a collection of short stories and a nouvelle written by Dr. Cardona-López.

The film, directed by independent filmmaker Luís Gerardo Otero, was selected to participate in the Film Festival’s international video screening under fiction.

The feature made its Laredo premiere last fall to a TAMIU graduate Spanish class.
