Crime Scene Investigation Topic of TAMIU Seminar

Procedural shows are popular on TV, but it takes more than a clever pun and sunglasses to solve a crime. Hear from a real homicide detective and a medical examiner about blood splatter analysis and crime scene investigations at three upcoming professional development courses offered by the Texas A&M International University Tuesday College of Arts and Sciences Criminal Justice Program, March 23 and Wednesday, March 24 in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC) Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room (WHTC 111).

These courses are free and open to students (with valid ID) law enforcement officers, attorneys and private investigators.

Participants are encouraged to register prior to the class. Call Kimberly Hill, research assistant, at 326.3116 to secure a seat.

“Death Scene Investigations and Autopsies,” presented by Dr. Corinne Stern, chief medical examiner, Webb County, and Robert Garcia, homicide detective, Laredo Police Department, is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 23.

This seminar will cover homicide investigation and analysis.

Louis L. Akin, crime scene analyst and certified medicolegal death investigator, will present “Blood Pattern Analysis and Investigations” Tuesday, March 23 from 1 – 5 p.m. and “Advanced Blood Pattern Analysis and Investigations” Wednesday, March 24 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education training hours will be awarded to law enforcement that attend. Peace officer standard and training (P.O.S.T.) and continuing legal education (C.L.E.) credits also apply.
