TAMIU Dancers Present Cri-Cri Performance Friday

Texas A&M International University College of Arts and Sciences Department of Fine and Performing Arts presents “Cri-Cri: El Grillito Cantor” (Cri-Cri: The Singing Cricket), Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre. The performance celebrates the music of Francisco Gabilondo Soler, a writer of hundreds of children’s songs.

General admission is $5 and children under 10 get in free.

“Cri-Cri,” originally created as a radio educational show teaching children positive values, began its fame in México and Latin America in the 1940s and has continued to be a popular icon.

The concert includes performances by TAMIU students currently enrolled in the dance program. The performances feature choreography by Bede Leyendecker, chair, department of fine and performing arts, Sandra Leal, adjunct professor of dance, and Dr. Alison Bory, visiting assistant professor of dance.

The dancers will perform as costumed characters that come to life to a variety of songs such as “Caminito a la escuela” (The Little Walk to School), “El gato del barrio” (The Barrio Cat), “El ratón vaquero” (The Cowboy Mouse), “Los ratones bomberos” (The Firefighter Mice), and other favorites.
