Prof Development Course Looks at Arms Smuggling April 7

Arms smuggling is the next topic at the upcoming Texas National Guard professional development course at Texas A&M International University Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. in Student Center, room 225.

The seminar is free and open to the public, but first responders are strongly encouraged to attend. It will also stream live online.

“This course will focus on arms smuggling and the increased violence associated with it and discuss gun control policies in the U.S., Canada and México,” said Dr. Claudia E. San Miguel, director, criminal justice program.

Dr. Judith Warner, professor of sociology, TAMIU, will lead the seminar.

Dr. Warner has a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.

The course will explore the origins of smuggled weapons from the U.S. to bordering countries and the consequences of arms smuggling, such as drug trafficking, as well as efforts to stop the flow of arms smuggling.

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education training hours will be awarded to law enforcement that attend.
