Organ Virtuoso Performs Sunday at TAMIU
One of today’s finest concert organists, Todd Wilson, will perform at the next installment of the Texas A&M International University Organ Recital Series Sunday, April 11 at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Wilson serves as head of the organ department at the Cleveland Institute of Music, curator of the E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra, artist-in-residence at Cleveland’s Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal), house organist at the Stan Hywet Home and Gardens in Akron and faculty at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
Described by The Plain Dealer at a concert in Cleveland with the Cleveland Orchestra as “a master tonal colorist” with “consistent security on both the manuals and the pedals,” Wilson has performed concerts in many major cities throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan.
Wilson was featured in the opening concert of the Centennial National Convention of the American Guild of Organists in 1996 in New York City. That same year, he played two concerts with orchestra as part of the festivities dedicating the new organ given by Van Cliburn at the Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
He dedicated the organ in the new 21,000-seat Mormon Conference Center in Salt Lake City in 2003 and the following year, he was organ soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra on the first orchestra subscription series concerts featuring the new organ at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In January 2005 he presented his first solo recital in Tokyo, Japan.
Wilson has also recorded more than 10 CDs.
He received his Bachelor and Master of Music from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He also holds “Fellow” and “Choirmaster” certificates from the American Guild of Organists.
