TAMIU Special Collections and Archives Offers Impressive Research Strengths for Community

Since 1981, graduate students at Texas A&M International University have been building a special knowledge base of original and advanced research that’s as varied as the journeys that culminated in their TAMIU advanced degrees.

Their Ph.D. dissertations, master’s theses, mini-theses and professional papers are now a substantial part of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Special Collections and Archives.

Established as an independent unit within the Killam Library in July 1999, it now houses over 700 graduate and post-graduate writings on a diverse array of topics.

From counseling psychology, education topics and subtopics, English and regional history to information systems, interdisciplinary studies, mathematics, sociology, and special education, it’s an impressive and research-useful collection, said Jeanette Hatcher, Special Collections librarian.

“The use of theses and dissertations, which are composed of original and advanced research, could be useful for students conducting their own research and the best part is that all are available for use by the public,” Hatcher explained.

The Library’s website offers a range of online tools to help locate relevant theses. 

The Special Collections and Archives online virtual archive lists the theses available by subject, author and title. Theses and dissertations are also available for search through the TAMIU Research Information Online system, known as RIO.  Full-text theses and dissertations are not currently available online.

All materials are in closed stacks and can be requested at the front desk of the Special Collections and Archives. Requests for materials can be taken until 30 minutes before closing. Photocopying services are available; but some limitations are in place. Requests for photocopies will be taken until 20 minutes before closing.
