Texas A&M International University’s rapidly expanding campus will see the opening of another brand new building this Fall: The University Success Center.

The $25 million Center will centralize units previously located in separate campus sites, thus making it more convenient for both prospective and current students to be able to access essential service areas all under one roof, said
Dr. Minita Ramírez, dean of the Division of Student Success.

“The new Center will serve as a one-stop shop for current and prospective students who will be able to access needed services to apply for admission, take placement exams, register for classes, apply for financial aid, request transcripts, pay for classes, buy books and obtain academic counseling services all in one location,” Dr. Ramírez said, “The building is a testament to TAMIU’s commitment to provide students a seamless transition to the University while encouraging their continued progress here.”

Units housed in the Center will include Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid Campus Card Services, Bursar’s Office, Recruitment and School Relations, Student Success, Bookstore, Testing Center, University College, Advising and Mentoring Center, and Student Counseling Services.

The Center was made possible by State funding initiated by Sen. Judith Zaffirini (D-Laredo) in the 2007 Legislative Session.

Building architects were PBS&J Architects and the contractor SpawGlass Construction Company.

TAMIU has recently celebrated its 15th anniversary on the campus and its 40th anniversary overall.

The University’s Spring 2010 enrollment saw an impressive 9.5 % increase to 6,090 students compared to Spring 2009 and a 9.9 increase in Semester Credit Hours (SCH) to 60,750. A campus comprised of a diverse student body, TAMIU students represent more than 30 countries.

Fall 2010 classes begin Aug. 23.
