TAMIU Hosts Welcome Week

Games, food and live entertainment are part of the activities scheduled for Texas A&M International University's "Welcome Week" Monday, Aug. 23 - Friday, Aug. 27.

TAMIU offers its "Welcome Week" to help new students transition to University life.

" 'Welcome Week' is an annual program that offers a variety of programs to new and returning students," said Miguel A. Treviño, associate director, Office of Student Affairs.

"During this week-long event, we offer campus maps and souvenirs and many other activities to welcome back students and to help new students become excited about University life. Most of the events are free of charge and open to all TAMIU students," Treviño added.

He also said that this year students should expect the return of the popular "Flavors of Laredo" and a performance by comedian Adam Ace.

The schedule for "Welcome Week" is as follows:

Monday, Aug. 23: Information tent with campus maps and information, University Green, 8 a.m. - 3 p .m.; magazine covers, University Green, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.; hula hoop contest, University Green, 11 a.m.,- 12 and 1 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 24: Information tent with campus maps and information, University Green, 8 a.m. - 3 p .m.; caricatures, University Green, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 25: Information tent with campus maps and information, University Green, 8 a.m. - 3 p .m.; "Flavors of Laredo," Student Center 203, 12 - 1:30 p.m.; 3D College Experience by Adam Ace, Student Center 236, 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 26: Information tent with campus maps and information, University Green, 8 a.m. - 3 p .m.; magazine covers, University Green, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.; musical chairs, University Green, 11 a.m., 12 and 1 p.m.; Club Villagio, University Village; magazine covers, University Green, 5:30- 7 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 27: Freshmen convocation and class of 2014 luncheon, Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
