Two Visiting Fulbright Scholars Teaching at TAMIU

This Fall, there are two new additions to Texas A&M International University’s College of Arts and Sciences’ department of Language and Literature. Fulbright Scholars Ala’eddin Khaled Alqatanani and Caroline Benedetto are visiting Teaching Assistants providing language courses at TAMIU for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Alqatanani, a Jordanian national, is teaching Beginning Arabic I and II at TAMIU. He holds a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. His academic and professional positions include President of the Heritage and Culture Society and serving as a peer tutor of English as Foreign Language (EFL) and Information Technology (IT) at the Peer Tutoring Centre at United Arab Emirates University.

Benedetto, a French national, is teaching Elementary French at TAMIU. The French native speaker is also bilingual in Italian, fluent in English, has perfect command in Spanish and basic knowledge of Swedish. She holds a Master in Translation with a specialization in English and Italian from the Université Aix-Marseille I, Provence, France and Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Benedetto is currently pursuing a Masters in Education from the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) de Cachan in France. Before joining TAMIU, Benedetto was a translator for the Division of Ethics of Science and Technology, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris.

The Fulbright Scholar Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The Program was created by Senator J. William Fulbright, who envisioned “mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries of the world.”

Recipients are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.
