Choral Music by TAMIU, LCC Performers Set Saturday

“A Celebration of American Choral Music” will set hearts swelling Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. with familiar classics at the Texas A&M International University Chamber Singers and Laredo Community College Mixed Choir in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

“Audiences will hear Jack Halloran’s sparkling and witty a cappella settings of American classics, ‘Camptown Races’ and ‘Nelly Bly,’ and selections from Randall Thompson’s thoughtful and inspiring work, ‘The Peaceable Kingdom,’ ” said Dana Crabtree, TAMIU instructor of music and voice.

“Also on the program are William Dawson’s and Moses Hogan’s creative arrangements of timeless spirituals, ‘Ezekiel Saw De Wheel’ and ‘Abide with Me,’ and the time-honored patriotic gems ‘God Bless America’ and ‘America the Beautiful,’ ” she added.

Special guest Dr. Mikolaj Gorecki, LCC instructor of music and piano, will accompany the singers.

Crabtree and Dr. Joseph Crabtree, LCC instructor of music, will both direct the concert.
