The movement of bodies in unison to sounds heard and thoughts visualized will be showcased in two performances of the 2010 Fall Dance Concert at Texas A&M International University this weekend.

Benefit performances are scheduled Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre.  Admission is $5 per person, with free admission for children aged 10 and younger.

Proceeds benefit student scholarships and the dance program. A concert highlight will be the naming of the second recipient of the Valeria Hernandez Memorial Scholarship.

Students will perform in ballet, flamenco, jazz and modern, said Bede Leyendecker, chair of the department of fine and performing arts and dance professor.

“We’ll be presenting a broad expression of the evolution of dance including selections by four students who are dance minors completing their requirements for the Concert Choreography class.  The program is highly varied and includes classical ballet, jazz, contemporary and flamenco works.  Our visiting instructor of dance, Holly Wooldridge, has also choreographed some impressive modern offerings entitled ‘Silence’ and ‘To/Away.’ ”
