A majority of Texas A&M International University students have voted their support for fee changes for the 2011-2012 year after the close of three-day online voting.

Both proposed fees passed.

The first, the Endowment Student Scholarship, replaces a $10 student deposit fee and funds scholarships for students. It will replace the fee with a $10 per semester Endowment Scholarship Fee that funds scholarships for current students. Final voting for the fee showed 259 in favor, 71 against.

The second, the Athletics Fee/Academics Reallocation, increases the Athletics Fee by $10 per semester credit hour to make TAMIU Athletics self-sustaining. This frees more than $1 million currently used to supplement the program, making these funds available for academic instruction. Final voting for the fee showed 224 in favor and 111 against.

In advance of the vote, the University held three public hearings to provide students with information about the proposed fees. Additional information was available online, through social media and the University’s web page.
Both fees will begin Fall 2011.
