This week’s bitterly cold weather and the forecast for its continuance is prompting Texas A&M International University officials to urge that students exercise caution and keep themselves aware of changing weather conditions.

On Wednesday, TAMIU activated its DustyALRT system, an emergency notification system, when the campus closed because of ongoing energy outages.  The system sends emergency messages to students by e-mail, text or voice messages. Students activate an online account for the free service to join the DustyALRT system.

In addition, the University posts alerts to its main web page, tamiu.edu and to the internal University communications system, Uconnect, as well as its social media sites on Facebook and Twitter.

Students are encouraged to exercise caution as road conditions may worsen, and to monitor local media and University alerts.

Enrolled students, faculty and staff can activate DustyALRT accounts at https://dustyalrt.tamiu.edu/welcome.aspx
