Artist Cowan in Organ Concert at TAMIU Sunday

One of North America’s finest concert organists will perform for the Texas A&M International University Organ Recital Series Sunday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.

Organist Ken Cowan, whose playing at a concert in Philadelphia, Penn., was described as “… nothing short of superb,” by The Diapason, is assistant professor of organ at Westminister Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J. The Ontario, Canada, native received a master’s degree and artist diploma from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and a bachelor of music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

Cowan has performed recitals in major concert venues across America, Canada and Europe, including Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Philadelphia’s Verizon Hall, Spivey Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris, France. He has also been a featured artist at the national and regional conventions for the American Guild of Organists, several conventions of the Organ Historical Society and the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

He has also recorded many critically acclaimed compact discs. Many of Cowan’s recordings and live performances are regularly featured on the nationally distributed radio shows “Pipedreams” from American Public Media.

The Sharkey-Corrigan Organ is a gift of the E. H. Corrigan Foundation, led by longtime Laredo businessman and passionate supporter of the arts E. H. Corrigan. It was inaugurated in July 2006.
