Hear the songs of the season at the upcoming Texas A&M International University Chamber Singers and Laredo Community College Mixed Choir concert, “A Musical Journey Through Easter,” Saturday, April 2 at 3 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

“This program of varied choral music will take the audience through the Lenten and Easter narratives, beginning with music associated with Ash Wednesday and ending in pieces which celebrate Christ’s resurrection,” explained Dana Crabtree, TAMIU instructor of music and voice.

“The combined choirs are honored to collaborate with several other ensembles and musicians for this concert,” added Crabtree.

They will be joined by the children of TAMIU’s Laredo Youth Choir as well as pianist Dr. Mary Grace Carroll, student organist Marianne Garcia, soprano soloist and TAMIU adjunct professor of voice Suzanne Ramo-Gechter, the First Baptist Church Handbell Ringers, TAMIU assistant professor of music Dr. David Garcia and TAMIU brass and percussion students.

Program highlights include pieces such as Roger T. Petrich’s “Chorale Variations on ‘Ah, Holy Jesus’,” Olivier Messiaen’s masterpiece “O sacrum convivium,” an excerpt from Couperin’s “Leçons de Tenebres,” contemporary favorites by Craig Courtney and David Lantz, and Hal Hopson’s magnificent arrangement of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today.”

Crabtree and Dr. Joseph Crabtree, LCC instructor of music and director of the LCC Mixed Choir, will both direct the concert.
