TAMIU Researcher Kim Gets Funding from Korea

A Texas A&M International University faculty member has been awarded a $40,000 grant for research from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), a prestigious science funding agency.

Dr. Young Jun Kim, assistant professor of Economics for the University’s A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business, will be conducting a review of research and development funding activities by the United States and the World Bank, including identifying the most effective and efficient decision-making tools employed.

Dr. Kim will work with a team of Sanchez School of Business researchers including colleagues Drs. George Clarke, Anand Jha, Sid Shakar, and Leonel Prieto. They will specifically research how feasibility tests for funding decisions were conducted in the past, as well as current research and development projects funded by the U.S. and the World Bank.

The Korean government annually allocates sizable research and development budgets. KISTEP is keenly interested in using feasibility analysis as a decision-making tool that could help to objectively and rationally uncover program weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats presented by the environment or resources required, and prospects for success.

Kim joined TAMIU in 2008.  He holds his Ph.D. in Economics from The George Washington University, a BA in Economics from Columbia University and a BBA from Korea University, Seoul.

This is the second KISTEP grant award received by Kim. Last year, the group funded his research on U.S. and Mexican businesses involved in sustainable green technology policy.
