The Laredo Theatre Guild International (LTGI,) in cooperation with Texas A&M International University, presents Oscar Wilde’s timeless comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest” at TAMIU's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre Thursday March 24- Saturday, March 26 at 8 p.m., with matinee performances at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are available for advance purchase at Foster's located at 1202 Del Mar Boulevard, Suite 101; Blue Top located at 101 Hillside Rd #11; at the TAMIU Bookstore and at the box office prior to each show. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for both students with Valid ID, and Senior Citizens. For more information, call (956) 319-8610 or visit laredotheaterguild.com

Directed by John Maxstadt and produced by Joe Arciniega, “The Importance of Being Earnest” is the springtime play in LTGI's second season. This is a production slot generally reserved for opportunities to bring an important, well-known piece of literature to life on the stage, as they did last spring with Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”

“This year, with ‘The Importance of Being Earnest,’ we feel particularly pleased to once again offer opportunities for our local high school and college students, particularly English, Literature and Theater students, to experience what they may have studied or read brought to vibrant life. We invite their teachers to encourage them to do so, as an enhancement to their classroom study,” said producer Arciniega.

LTGI hopes that once the audiences enter the theater, they will be amply rewarded with fun and sparkling escapism as only Wilde can provide.

“This play is no museum piece, thank goodness. It may be a classic of British literature, but it is also a great piece of living theater, eminently playable and eminently watchable. And funny. Very, very funny,” said director John Maxstadt.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” features a cast of Laredo theater veterans and newcomers including with Richard Resendez, Casandra Canales, Carllyn Walker, Brendan Townsend, Cindy Stewart, and Henry Mejía, who have been seen in previous LTGI productions, joining Alex Iadipaolo, Victoria Rose Young, and Ray Cantu, who are all making their LTGI production debut.

A limited number of complimentary TAMIU student tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis to currently enrolled, ID-bearing students at TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences, department of fine and performing arts, located in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, room 217C.

Additionally, 15 minutes prior to every performance, all remaining tickets are offered to TAMIU students with valid student ID at no charge.
