Organ Recital Sunday Features Austin Artist

Spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying a moving performance by top organist, Jungjin Kim, at the next installment of the Texas A&M International University Organ Recital Series Sunday, March 27 at 4 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Born in Seoul, Jungjin Kim began studying piano at the age of four. She continued with her music and majored in organ studies at the Church Music Department of Yonsei University and earned a bachelor’s degree in organ performance, graduating with highest distinctions and studying with Dr. Myung Ja Cho. She also received her master’s degree in music history at Yonsei University.

In 2008, she enrolled in the master’s degree program in organ performance at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin where she also studied improvisation with Dr. Gerre Hancock. In 2010, she won first prize in the William C. Hall Pipe Organ Competition in San Antonio. She also won the prize for “Hymn Playing Excellence.”

She is currently a doctoral student in organ performance studying with Dr. Judith Hancock at the University of Texas at Austin. Kim has also been the organist for the Genesis Presbyterian Church at Austin since 2009.

The Sharkey-Corrigan Organ is a gift of the E. H. Corrigan Foundation, led by longtime Laredo businessman and passionate supporter of the arts E. H. Corrigan. It was inaugurated in July 2006.
