Students who want to take an active part in what goes on at Texas A&M International University should take the opportunity to apply for the 2011-2012 Student Government Association (SGA) Officer Elections.

The application is available for download at www.tamiu.edu/studentaffairs

Deadline to apply is Friday, March 25, 2011.

Members of the Student Government Association say they learn to collaborate with fellow students, University officials, and counterparts on issues that have an overarching impact on students at TAMIU and across the State of Texas.

They also serve on University wide-committees, work within parliamentary procedures, file bills, and budget monies allocated to the organization, while representing the voice of the students,  said Gerardo Alva, director, Office of Student Affairs.

The SGA started the semester with an international focus by welcoming more than 30 students and staff from a counterpart organization representing the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México.

“The meeting of the student groups focused on sharing best practices including ideas, structures and student engagement,” said Alva.

Collaboration and commitment to their respective schools was a central theme at the various meetings.

“Leaders of both organizations are developing goals for a continued partnership and expansion of the current relationship,” Alva added.
