Texas A&M International University students will express their gratitude to University donors, the Laredo community and the State of Texas during “TAMIU Thank You Day,” an all-day event scheduled Wednesday, March 23 on the University Green.

A huge “Thank You” note will be hung on the Green so that students can sign it and thank those who have continuously made a generous difference in their education, said Rebecca García, TAMIU director of development and donor relations.

March 23 also marks the day in the Spring Semester when gifts to the University begin to cover students’ education costs, García said.

“Tuition only covers 23% of the cost of students’ education at TAMIU,” García noted, “The other 39% is covered by gifts to the University through the ‘ALL4TAMIU’ fundraising drive from alumni, faculty, staff and friends; grants research and contracts, and 38% by support from the State of Texas.”

“TAMIU Thank You Day” is intended to recognize donors by having students collectively stop to say ‘Thank You,’ “ García said, adding T-shirts will also be provided at the event.

TAMIU Thank You Day is similar to traditions at other universities across the nation that recognize donors on the day when gifts to universities begin to cover students’ education costs. Other “TAMIU Thank You” events will occur in the Fall, García explained.

TAMIU offices will be closed for Spring Break Friday, March 18. Offices will reopen and classes will resume at 8 a.m. Monday, March 21.
