TAMIU Autism Center Hosts First Benefit Golf Tournament May 7

Texas A&M International University’s Autism Intervention Center (AIC) will host its first charity Golf Tournament, dubbed “Swing for Autism” on Saturday, May 7, 2011,at the Casa Blanca Golf Course.

Dr. Candace Baker, TAMIU College of Education associate professor and director of the AIC, said the Tournament is a fundraiser for the Center.

“Our Center is dedicated to providing access to diagnosis, and Autism education growth.  We offer diagnostic evaluations and evidence-based intervention services for individuals with Autism. The funds raised through efforts like the Tournament and others help us to continue to deliver our service mission. The immediate goal is to raise funds to provide a summer school experience for 5 to 22 year olds who have Autism Spectrum Disorders.

“Our community has a tremendous need for Autism services and we provide a range of services, including diagnostic evaluation, school assessments, functional behavior assessments and analysis and professional development workshops, among others,” Dr. Baker explained.

The Tournament format is a two-man scramble and the registration fee is $100 per person.  Registration fee will cover green fees, golf cart, range balls and lunch. Onsite check-in will take place at 7:30 a.m. with tee time at 8 a.m.  Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

Platinum sponsor for the event is Transportes Fema.
