There is no better way to spend a Spring Saturday than to watch great collegiate baseball and softball and support our military troops and their families who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

This idea is the impetus behind Texas A&M International University’s Military Appreciation Day that will be held in conjunction with home baseball and softball games on Saturday, April 9.

TAMIU baseball will host Arkansas-Fort Smith at Jorge Haynes Field with softball hosting St. Mary’s at Dustdevil Field on campus on that day. First pitch for baseball is scheduled for noon with softball scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

The event honoring Veterans, Active Duty military, and National Guard troops is being sponsored by Coyote CreekGrill & Cantina. Admission is free to all military personnel, veterans and their families and complimentary tickets for the general public are available at Coyote Creek Grill & Cantina at 4615 San Bernardo.

Amongst the events planned for Military Appreciation Day is a pre-game ceremony honoring veterans of past wars. Children’s activities will include face painting.

A representative from Operation Homefront of Texas will be in attendance to advise active duty military families regarding the services that the San Antonio non-profit provides enlisted military families in times of dire financial crisis.

Raffle tickets will be available for wonderful prizes, including a voucher for four lower box tickets to a 2011 Texas Rangers home game. Raffle and concession proceeds will benefit Operation Homefront of Texas.

Operation Homefront, Texas Chapter President Jennifer Cernoch is thrilled to partner with Dustdevil baseball and softball for this inaugural event.

“We are honored to partner with Texas A&M International University Athletics to honor our Active Duty, National Guard and Veterans who give so much each and every day for our freedom,” said Cernoch.

“With the help of TAMIU and these proceeds, many military families will be able to receive much needed financial assistance through Operation Homefront of Texas.”
