TAMIU Offers Non-Credit Language Courses

Take the opportunity this summer to learn a new language or take a refresher course at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). Registration is underway for International Language Institute (ILI) course offerings for Maymester and summer.

Acceptance to TAMIU is not a requirement.

“French Refresher Course” will be offered during the Maymester, May 16 – June 1, Monday – Thursday, 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Course fee is $400 and includes materials.

“This non-credit French refresher course is intended for those students who have previous knowledge of the language and desire to increase their fluency,” explained H. Lisa Gardner Flores, director, ILI.

“ESL Conversation” will be offered May 16 – June 3, Monday – Thursday, 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Course fee is $360 and includes materials.

“The ESL course is designed to help second language English speakers improve their fluency and develop successful communications strategies in Standard American English,” she added.

Deadline to register for both classes is May 13.

“Intensive ESL Program” will be offered June 6 – July 29, Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Deadline to register is
June 2.

“Intensive Spanish Summer Program 2011” will be offered July 11 – 29, Monday – Thursday. Deadline is June 30.

Also being offered this summer will be the “Children’s Language Program” June 13 – 24, Monday – Thursday, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Kids ages 8 – 12 can register to learn Portuguese, Spanish or ESL.

“Children will be introduced to learning a language through fun-filled activities such as songs, interactive role playing and games,” said Flores.

Deadline to register is June 9. Course fee is $250.
