TAMIU Offers CEU Workshop on Pathogens, Ethics Friday

A specialized workshop, “Blood-borne Pathogens and Ethics,” will be held Friday, June 24 at Texas A&M International University’s University Success Center, room 101. Six continuing education units (CEUs) will be available.

The Workshop is presented by the University’s Office of Student Counseling and Health Services and Office of Continuing Education. It will be lead by Dr. Gilberto Salinas, director of TAMIU’s Student Counseling, Disabilities and Health Center and Elizabeth Dodier, RN and associate director of Student Health Services.

“Ethics” will take place from 8:30 a.m. -12 noon, followed by a lunch break. “Blood-borne Pathogens” will be presented from 1:30 - 5 p.m. Intended audiences include LCDC, Social Workers or LPC individuals seeking recertification, or anyone with an interest in the topics.

The “Blood-borne Pathogen” presentation will include a description of all diseases that can be transmitted directly by blood contact and precautions to be taken to avoid exposure. The afternoon “Ethics” session focuses on ethics in the mental health profession.

Dr. Salinas is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (Texas). He holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with a minor in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University, as well as a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from TAMIU.

Dodier has been a registered nurse for 22 years and holds additional certifications in Peritoneal Dialysis, Crisis Prevention Intervention, PMAB (Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior), CPR, Reflexology, REIKI Master, and Acupressure.
