Auditions for the Laredo Theatre Guild International (LTGI) production of “The Foreigner,” will be Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 from 7 to 10 p.m., at Texas A&M International University’s Sam Johnson Experimental Theatre in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA).

“The Foreigner” is the late Larry Shue’s classic comedy about cultural differences, inner courage, and racism, with mistaken identity thrown in for good measure and great comedy. The two-time Obie Award winner and Outer Critics Circle Award winner for Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production will be presented by LTGI in cooperation with TAMIU.

It will be directed by Gil Martínez, TAMIU theatre instructor, and produced by Linda L. Howland for a two-week run beginning October 13 in TAMIU’s CFPA Theatre. “The Foreigner” will be LTGI’s 2011 – 2012 Season 3 opener.

The cast is comprised of five men and two women, ages mid-20’s to mid-70’s, depending upon the role. LTGI is particularly seeking a mature (age 50’s to 70’s) but feisty and energetic woman for the key role of Betty Meeks, the proprietor of the fishing lodge who is a “down home” Southern lady. Men with British and Cockney accents are also being sought.

Other shows planned for LTGI’s Season 3 are Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” February 2012; “Rabbit Hole,” May 2012 and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” July 2012.
