This Fall: Earn a TAMIU Master’s Degree
In today’s job climate, job seekers know one of the best ways to secure a better job or a promotion is to improve their marketability by enrolling in graduate school. A master’s degree from Texas A&M International University makes resumes stand out and gives job seekers an edge when competing for jobs.
“The benefits to holding a master’s degree are many,” said Suzanne Alford, director, TAMIU Office of Graduate Studies.
“Holding a master’s degree opens the door for more opportunities such as starting jobs at higher level positions with increased salaries and promotion possibilities, a deeper knowledge and understanding of the particular area of study, and the prestige that comes with it,” Alford stated.
According to the Council of Graduate School, between Fall 1989 and Fall 2009, total graduate enrollment increased 58 percent at Hispanic Serving Institutions and 40 percent at other institutions.
They also reported that the average annual percentage change in master’s degrees awarded between 1998-99 and 2008-09 is 4.3 percent.
“In the last 50 years, educational attainment levels for people 25 years of age or older have been on the rise. In 1990, there were more than 1 million people holding doctorate degrees alone. In 2000, approximately 25 million people in the U.S. held a graduate or professional degree combined and in Texas alone over a million people held a graduate or professional degree,” Alford noted.
The TAMIU Office of Graduate Studies offers more than 25 master’s degree programs in the humanities; business; education; physical, biological and social sciences and health professions.
“As of Fall 2011, it is projected that 687,000 people will hold a master’s degree in the U.S. and predicted that by Fall 2015 that the number will increase to 750,00,” added Alford.
Those who think their schedules won’t accommodate graduate school should reconsider taking classes. In fact, the University offers classes to fit working students’ schedules with evening and Saturday classes.
Online courses are also available. The Master of Science in Criminal Justice can be completed entirely online.
Other accommodations: the TAMIU A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business offers a Master of Business Administration taught in Spanish.
