Texas A&M International University’s Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library is now one of 15 state universities to become part of the Texas Digital Library (TDL), a consortium of higher education institutions that provides shared services in support of research and teaching.

TAMIU Killam Library director Douglas Ferrier said the new partnership affords TAMIU remarkable new opportunities.

“The TDL is at the forefront of collaborative solutions to the growing challenges of digital storage, publication, and preservation of research, scholarship and teaching materials.  Their programs and services will help to further elevate our TAMIU research and teaching initiatives,” Ferrier said.

Among the TDL programs that Ferrier said have special relevance for the Killam Library are participation in digital repositories, an electronic thesis and dissertation submission and management system and a variety of scholarly communication services including online journals and blogs and scholarly conference management software.

“The Killam Library has some impressive special collections and archives assets which could be more readily shared with larger audiences and researchers through digital repositories.  The electronic thesis and dissertation system will be highly useful to our graduate students and the scholarly communications suite will help our researchers to move print journals online and develop focused scholarly conferences,” he explained.

The TDL began in 2005 as a partnership between the State’s largest universities: Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, the University of Houston and the University of Texas. Collectively, its 15 members represent more than 250,000 students, 50,000 graduate and professional students and more than 20,000 faculty members.
