TAMIU-SBDC Offers October Business Workshops

The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will sponsor several workshops during the month of October.

Tuesday, October 11: Managing Cash - the Small Business Owner's Guide to Financial Control Workshop in Zapata, Texas, is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Zapata County Courthouse, suite 248. Fee for the seminar is $20, includes Workbook. Cash flow is what comes into and goes out of a business. Gaining financial control by understanding cash flow is crucial to business success. Yael Rodríguez, certified rural business advisor, will review cash – the fuel that runs your business, maximizing your cash flow, tools for speeding up cash collections, overdue invoices, three tools for helping with accounts receivable, cash flow statements and four short-term financing solutions.

Wednesday, October 12: the Art of Starting a Business: Basic Business Essentials, free of charge workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 125. Instructor Angelo Piccirillo, SBDC-certified business advisor, will present this practical workshop that helps businesses to avoid common pitfalls, evaluate strengths and weaknesses, and the skills needed to succeed. Participants will also explore initial paperwork, assessment process, legal structures and importance of the business plan.

Thursday, October 13: Anatomy of a Business Plan Workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 126. Fee for the seminar is $20, and each participant receives Linda Pinzon’s “Anatomy of a Business Plan: a Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Business and Securing your Company’s Future,” a $50 value. Instructor Angelo Piccirillo explains that planning is the map to success in the business world. One needs to write a business plan when: starting or buying a business; financing or refinancing a business or raising debt or equity capital.

Tuesday, October 18: Small Business Certifications through the U.S. Small Business Administration – Want to Sell your Product to the Federal Government? This free of charge seminar is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at TAMIU Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 126. Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and TAMIU-SBDC, will hold a FREE seminar. Stop by and learn of the contracting certifications available to small businesses through SBA’s 8(a) BD, Hubzone, WOSB, and Veteran Owned Business certifications. SBA can assist a small business in the start-up and expansion years.
SBA provides counseling and technical assistance to thousands of start-up and existing small business owners through its network of resource partners; i.e., the Women’s Business Centers, Small Business Development Centers, and SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business.

SBA approves billions of dollars to small businesses through participating lenders and credit unions using SBA’s 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program.

Thursday, October 20: the Art of Customer Service will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Student Center, room 231. Fee is $20. The purpose of the workshop is to learn the Art of Customer Service using the “CIVIL” framework, it will help your business and organizations experience employee empowerment, repeat business, loyal customers, and an overall satisfactory customer service strategy. Join instructor Tina Rodriguez for an interactive two-hour presentation.

Wednesday, October 26: Customer Service: a Key to Business Success in Zapata, Texas, scheduled from 9:30 to 12:00 noon at the Zapata County Courthouse, suite 248. Fee for the seminar is $20. Customer service is one of the greatest keys to your business success. It can literally make or break a business. This is so because all business, marketing, sales and profits depend on customers. People are in business to generate profits by selling products and services to people who need and want to buy. Join Instructor Yael Rodríguez, certified rural business advisor for an interactive two-hour presentation.
