Sixth Annual Band Extravaganza Honors Vets at TAMIU Nov. 9

Two Texas A&M International University premiere bands will join forces with the United High School Choir to present the 6th Annual Band Extravaganza in honor of military personnel and veterans Wednesday, Nov. 9. at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The Concert will feature the Symphonic Winds, directed by Dr. Humberto González, senior lecturer in the College of Education; the TAMIU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jerry Quintero; and The United High School Choir, directed by Paul Foster.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Ensemble kicks off the concert with Nilo Menendez’s ‘Green Eyes,’ followed by Count Basie’s ‘The Best of Basie,’ Pérez Prado’s ‘Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White’ and Stevie Wonder’s ‘Stevie Wonder Medley (Songs in The Key of Life)’

The Symphonic Winds will follow with an interpretation of John Philip Sousa’s ‘The Minnesota March,’ John Zdechlik’s ‘Chorale and Shaker Dance,’ Michael Sweeney’s ‘Music of The Beatles’ and Gustav Holst’s ‘Second Suite in F for Military Band.’

The Concert will conclude with an interpretation of Samuel Francis Smith and Bates & Ward’s ‘America the Beautiful’ by the Symphonic Winds and The United High School Choir.
